Day 1 — Airlie Beach: The Start of Our Queensland Beaches Journey

We’re researching and visiting every stretch of sand that makes Queensland legendary — from iconic coastlines to those secret little coves you only find when you take a wrong turn.

This new series — our Queensland Beaches Run — is all about discovering Australia’s most stunning coastal spots, sharing local tips, and showing you what makes each one worth the drive. We’ve already explored some incredible favourites like CoolumBurleigh, and 1770, but there are still hundreds waiting to be found.

We’ll help take the guesswork out of planning your own adventures — from where to park the van to what tide to catch for the best swim — and we’d love for you to add your own experiences along the way. This journey is as much yours as it is ours.

Welcome to Airlie Beach

Tucked into the heart of Queensland’s Whitsunday Region, Airlie Beach is the sun-soaked, palm-lined seaside town that serves as the gateway to the famed Whitsunday Islands and the vast Great Barrier Reef.

With its vibrant foreshore, turquoise waters, and easy access to world-class marine and island-adventures, it balances chill holiday vibes with adventurous excursions.

Why it stands out

  • Launchpad to Paradise: Many visitors use Airlie Beach as the base from which to explore the 74 Whitsunday Islands.
  • Easy to get around: From flights into the nearby Whitsunday Coast Airport at Proserpine, buses, taxis and car-hire make it smoothly connected.
  • Something for all styles: Families, couples, backpackers and luxury travellers will all find accommodation, cafés, and activities to suit.
  • Stunning nature: Between rainforest hills, the Coral Sea and world-famous reefs, it’s not just a town—it’s a nature-lovers’ playground.

Things to do

Here are some of the highlights to build into your itinerary:

1. Chill by the water

The Airlie Beach Lagoon is a fantastic spot for families or anyone wanting to swim safely (especially when stingers are a risk in open sea).

You’ll find picnic spots, shaded zones and the sea view right in town.

2. Explore the islands & reef

Whether you pick a day-trip or overnight sailing, you won’t regret getting out on the water. Snorkelling, scuba-diving, scenic flights, or simply soaking up beach beauty are all on offer. Don’t miss the opportunity to see places like Whitehaven Beach via tour.

3. Walk, hike & see viewpoints

For a change of pace, try the trails in Conway National Park or the lookout at Honeyeater Lookout for sweeping views. Even just the boardwalk along the esplanade is lovely for a relaxed wander.

4. Local vibes, markets & dining

Visit the Saturday market on the foreshore for crafts, visits and food treats. Come evening time, you’ll find restaurants and bars with fresh-seafood and relaxed tropical ambiance. visitwhitsundayislands.com.au

Best time to visit & what to know

  • Dry season (May-Oct) is generally the most comfortable for weather, with sunny skies and fewer storms.
  • During summer/monsoon months (Nov-Apr) you’ll still enjoy a warm climate, but expect higher humidity, more chance of rain and stinger risks in the ocean.
  • For beach swimming, always check local stinger nets and lagoon zones when venturing out into open water.

For adventurous brands like yours (caravanning / camping / outdoor gear)

Given you’re running a caravan, camping and accessories company (and your brand focus on Aussie outdoor lifestyle), Airlie Beach presents some excellent angles:

  • Use the destination as a content backdrop: imagine your camping gear or caravan setup with the lagoon or island backdrop—great for social posts or blog visuals.
  • Highlight eco-adventure: With reef and island tours, you could tie in your brand’s eco-friendly identity (you noted you work with Carbon Neutral etc) by showcasing responsible travel to places like this.
  • Offer or partner with local experiences: e.g., "gear up and head out to day-trip from Airlie Beach to Whitsundays" posts, or "camp gear that fits seamlessly into an island hopping itinerary".
  • Consider family-friendly positioning: Airlie Beach suits families (you run a brand with kids in mind) — show how your accessories make island/sand/beach life easier for parents and kids.
